I get questioned a lot about my blog and why I have one. I get asked what it’s for, what do I do on here, how did I create one, etc. I will start posting tutorials soon on how to create a blog, maintain it, etc. But today I’ll just explain why I have one in the first place.

For years now, I have been in love with the idea of recording/documenting my life and I really wanted to start doing that one day. I loved discovering someone’s YouTube channel or Instagram and going back to the beginning to watch how their life changed over time. I loved that part of social media but when I was younger, I wasn’t allowed to be all over the internet and post things. I remember wanting a Facebook account when it first became really popular and not even knowing how to use it!

When I finally got a phone and some freedom, like everyone else, I started going on social media and creating accounts. I finally got to post something and go back to look at it later on and I loved that part. For years it was great to be able to post and share my life but as I got older, I wanted to find different ways to do that.

After learning that people were making money from social media, I became more interested in it. I never had a plan for what I wanted to do in life but I knew I just wanted to make money doing whatever I chose. The more I started researching, the more I noticed that some people could work full time from home using social media and actually enjoy what they were doing. This seemed crazy to me but I wanted to give it a try.

I decided at the last minute that I didn’t want to go to college right after high school because I moved out and I just wanted to start working. I started looking for ways to work from home about two years ago. I didn’t start by trying to make money from social media. Instead, I searched for jobs like virtual assisting, or setting appointments for companies. I came across so many scams and when I did find a real job, it didn’t offer any job security. I was 18 at the time and living with my boyfriend, I didn’t have the option to quit my job without the promise of another one. I finally came across a YouTube video about designing a website and becoming an affiliate marketer. This seemed easy enough since all I had do was become an affiliate for an online company  and post their products. If someone purchased a product, I would make money. I decided to try it… I watched about 20 different videos and used them to make my website. One channel on YouTube, WPeagle, filmed a step-by-step tutorial on building an affiliate website so I did exactly that.

I spent hours and hours building this site and posting. I shared it everywhere, spent lots of money, followed advice, maintained it, etc. and at the end I only made about $2 from it. You can imagine how hopeless I felt at that point. Maintaining a website that I couldn’t customize and having to follow so many rules didn’t seem fun anymore and I gave up on it after about 6 months.

I had no intentions of ever building another website until I started researching how to make money online again. This time, I discovered blogging. I never knew it, but there’s hundreds of blogs out there that people use to make money and share things. Chances are you have clicked on a link to someone’s blog for answers to something or advice and didn’t even realize it was a blog! I started learning about the multiple different ways to earn money on a personal blog but this isn’t what really caught my eye.

After spending some time reading people’s blogs, I realized that a blog is exactly what I was looking for all this time! This is something I can look at in the future and see how I was feeling, what I was interested in, what I wrote about, etc. Another great thing about blogging is the money of course but I knew that would take a long time and it wouldn’t be easy. My goal in this lifetime is to work full time from home doing something I enjoy. I want to have the opportunity to stay home and take care of the house, the pets, and maybe one day… my kids (I don’t have any yet).

So the point is, I have a blog because I want to share things in my life and have something to look back on one day. Years from now, people can find my blog and learn so much about what I’ve done and who I am… I think that’s pretty cool.
